Complimentary Education | Monday, Feb. 26 | 11 a.m. CT According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the year 2022 witnessed 734 Black workers losing their lives at work, marking an increase from 653 in 2021—the highest number seen in more than two decades. While the causes for these data are multifaceted, there is no question that the workplace safety management system is failing black workers. This presentation aims to pose some questions that should be asked by shareholders, leaders, employers, workers (especially black workers), clients, customers, and contractors. Systems that are consistently inequitably and unsafe for any demographic should be of concern to everyone. We’ll gain an understanding of the current disparities in injury rates among Black workers, explore insights into the underlying factors contributing to the increasing risks, and enhance cultural competence within the realm of EHS to tailor safety strategies that resonate with diverse communities.
