NJ ASSP Picatinny Arsenal Tour—Oktoberfest Style October 4, 2022

On October 4, we had ASSP members, new and old, join us at Picatinny Arsenal to receive a detailed tour of the Helicopter and Tank Technological Advancements Group. Every day, the best technological advancements are tested every day at this military research center. It was awesome seeing the helicopters and tanks up close and what goes into the fabrication, maintenance, and even transporting the equipment. We learned that the tanks hold 500 gallons of fuel while getting an environmentally friendly .4 miles per gallon (not a misprint).

Part of the visit included a gun turret robotics tour where different tests with multiple different variables are measured and adjusted constantly.  We were instructed not to take any photos for national security concerns.  This illustrates how state-of-the-art technology is being designed to help protect us.

After the tour, we all regrouped at The Club at Picatinny where the Garrison Commander and Picatinny Arsenal Health and Safety Director spoke to us about multiple safety and health topics.  They also welcomed us with open arms and really made us feel at home.  We then received a detailed historical account of Picatinny Arsenal by the site’s historian.  The history dates back to the Revolutionary War and was key in helping develop military weapons and armor during World War II where over 18,000 people worked around the clock to help defeat the Axis Powers.

We ended the day’s festivities by enjoying a delicious Oktoberfest style buffet with bratwurst, potato pancakes, chicken schnitzel, German potato salad, and other delicious treats. Important Note: No alcohol was served.

A special thanks goes to Jack Fearing for helping put this event together.  We had 3 first time meeting attendees, members from Long Island come out, and new members join our Platinum Level Chapter.

Overall, a very success day.  Make sure to join the fun, network, and learn from the best at our next event.
