Cristiano Godoy, CHST
Current Treasurer

Cristiano Godoy, CHST, is a passionate and dedicated safety professional with over two decades of experience in the construction industry, including more than 20 years specializing in health and safety. He has been an active member of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals (NJASSP) since 2015 and currently serves on the chapter’s Standing Committee and Executive Board, holding the position of Treasurer for the past four years.
Cristiano’s career began in Florida, where he successfully owned and operated a construction company for five years. After selling his share of the business, he transitioned into a role as a coating inspector. It was in this role that he identified a widespread need for improved safety knowledge on job sites—an observation that sparked his deep commitment to safety education and advocacy.
Shortly after relocating to New Jersey, Cristiano earned his Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification, became an Authorized OSHA Trainer, and joined ASSE (now ASSP) in 2015. He began teaching OSHA 10- and 30-hour Construction courses throughout New York and New Jersey—an endeavor that not only allowed him to share vital safety knowledge but also connect with and mentor other professionals in the field.
Fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, Cristiano has played an instrumental role in NJASSP’s Hispanic Outreach Committee. His work has helped break down language barriers and expand the organization’s reach to underrepresented professionals who may not have been aware of the resources available to them.
One of his proudest achievements was co-developing the Podcast Interview Series alongside Jack Fearing during the COVID-19 pandemic—a creative initiative that kept members informed and engaged during a time of social distancing. His leadership and service were further recognized when he was nominated as the 2024 Safety Professional of the Year by NJASSP.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Cristiano is deeply committed to his community. After completing eight months of intensive training, he now proudly serves as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Bridgewater Finderne Fire Department.
Cristiano attributes much of his personal and professional success to the support of his wife, whom he met shortly after moving to New Jersey. What began as a temporary stay evolved into a permanent home in Bridgewater, where he now lives with his wife and their two daughters. Though he fondly remembers the warmth of Florida and hopes to return one day, New Jersey has become the foundation of his career and family life.
With a strong sense of service, a collaborative spirit, and a proven record of leadership, Cristiano Godoy is proud to be a candidate for Vice President of the NJASSP Chapter.
