October 2020 Newsletter
President's Message
Hello New Jersey!

As the year continues, our Executive Board continues to look for the best ways to engage our membership. In August, we sent out a member wide survey to understand what you are looking to get out of your ASSP membership this year.

We gathered from this data that the majority of our membership is open to virtual meetings, whether they are technical or just simply just a cup of coffee and conversation, and a large portion of the membership would also be open to in-person meetings.

What you can look for this year will be a great mix of those two membership requests. We have already scheduled two virtual meetings for those looking to network with fellow safety professionals. This month, we held an in-person social event for those looking to get some in-person interaction and will also be hosting a virtual technical meeting. We will continue to host a wide variety of meetings to keep you both informed and connected.

We also learned of a variety of topics you want to hear. We have partnered with a surrounding chapter of ASSP to broaden our reach for professional speakers. We have plans underway to bring you some excellent content in the beginning of 2021.

Thank you all for your support and for participating in the events thus far in what has been a great test of our creativity and resilience. I look forward to what the rest of the year will bring.

-Anthony Krake

Past Events

Oktoberfest Meeting

On October 2, a group of members, friends, and family met for our first networking event this year. Frank Gesualdo planned this outdoor event at Brick Farm Tavern in Hopewell, NJ. We were able to eat, drink, and socialize in a beautiful setting.

This event was the first time some people had ventured out for any occasion since March. As a group, we have not been able to meet face to face since last winter.  Everyone took the appropriate precautions for the meeting. We had two reserved tables, and eventually a third out in the sun, to ensure social distancing. We used masks when not seated at our tables and some even used their masks at the table; whatever anyone was comfortable with, was respected by everyone at the event.

We hope to have various upcoming events to allow all of our members, and hopefully new members, to engage. As always, we strive to bring opportunities to enhance your leadership skills, network with an amazing Safety community, and build on your technical skills. If you have an idea or a proposal for an event, please don't hesitate to reach out. We would love to hear from you!

Thank you to Frank Gesualdo for planning this event, and thanks to all who could venture out and join us!

Safety professional of more than fifteen years, I have been a member of ASSP since 2013. I am a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Licensed NYC DOB Site Safety Manager (SMS), and holder of various certificates In addition, I hold a Masters of Business with a concentration in supply chain management from Seton Hall University (MBA).

I have held the NJASSP committee chair for Government Affairs and recently been elected as chapter secretary and Blacks in Safety Excellence (BISE) local chapter liaison. I am excited to serve on the executive board. My journey as an EH&S professional has taken me to many places geographical.
