Chapter Election Platform Statement – Treasurer Candidate, Robert Ortiz, OHST

NJ ASSE Treasurer Candidate, Robert Ortiz, OHST

Since joining the ASSE in 2007, I have been a keen observer of national and chapter governance and the multifaceted approach it takes in nurturing the development of the safety professional as well as promoting the safety industry in its pursuit of protecting people, property and the environment.

In 2008, a year after active membership, I attained the designation of OHST and was later appointed the chapter’s Hispanic Outreach Committee Chair. After working closely with the leadership in NJASSE and following their example, advice and mentorship, all the while working diligently in the industry for the past 18 years, I completed a long sought after Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, and became a Professional Member in 2014. I am now on the march to attaining CSP. I consider myself a prime example of the best the NJASSE has to offer in professional development and career enhancement.

While concurrently gaining progressive professional safety experience in naval aviation, private sector mass transit, and biopharmaceutical R&D, I’ve gained fiduciary experience in managing financial as well as logistic disbursements in my community and abroad as a member and former chairperson of the First Presbyterian Church of Hackensack Mission & Outreach committee. It is here that we provide assistance to faith based, and community agencies that require donations as well as man and woman power to provide the underserved populations in Bergen County with the assistance they need in terms of food, shelter, employment counseling, and environmental conservation. Shelter Our Sisters, Center for Food Action, and the Hackensack Riverkeeper are among our local recipients while the Mate-McFarlan group gets our assistance in running an AIDS clinic in Johannesburg, South Africa.

It is with this same zeal for professional development and servant leadership that I have a keen interest in serving the NJASSE chapter as its next Treasurer as it enters into another year of service to our profession. In this I humbly place my name in consideration for your vote as your next NJASSE Treasurer.

Fraternally,
Robert Ortiz, OHST
